Diesel served as the spokesperson for the Furious 7 castmembers as they picked up the honor for Choice Movie: Action/Adventure, and he was joined by Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, and Ludacris, who also served as the ceremony’s co-host.

Diesel told the crowd, “Thank you. This was a very special movie to make… We make these movies with our hearts. We really are a family. My kids refer to Luda (Ludacris) as Uncle Luda, Uncle Ty Boogie (Tyrese Gibson), Auntie Michelle, Auntie Jordana. We are a true, true, true family. You fans have been so incredible to us and have encouraged us to reach higher and do better each time.”

The actor went on to acknowledge Paul Walker, who died in a fiery car crash in November, 2013 as they were filming Furious 7, and his 16-year-old daughter Meadow, who was in the audience.

Diesel continued, “I can’t stand here and be rewarded like this without talking about someone very, very important to us. One of the best blessings in our lives is the fact that we have the opportunity to call Pablo (Walker) our brother. Paul Walker is here in spirit with us.

“And since this is a Teen Choice Award, there is one teen in the audience that is a part of the audience that kept us going… and her name is Meadow Walker. It’s Paul Walker’s family – his parents, his brothers – that kept us encouraged when we were filming Furious 7.”

Ludacris then announced that the late actor had won the Choice Movie Actor: Action/Adventure prize, and earlier in the night, rapper Wiz Khalifa accepted the Choice Song from a Movie or TV Show and Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song awards for his track with Charlie Puth, See You Again, a musical tribute to Walker.

Meanwhile, One Direction scored the most surfboard trophies of the night with eight, giving them an all time total of 23 wins. The foursome couldn’t attend the ceremony as they are currently on their North American tour, so they sent a video message of thanks instead.

The boy band won Choice Music Group: Male, Choice Summer Music Star: Group, Choice Selfie Taker, Choice Song: Group for Steal My Girl, Choice Love Song for Night Changes, Choice Party Song for No Control, Choice Summer Tour for their On the Road Again Tour and Choice Male Hottie, a prize they won collectively over former bandmember Zayn Malik, who quit the group in March 2015.

Meanwhile, hit mystery drama Pretty Little Liars was the main winner in the TV section with five, including Choice TV: Drama, and individual victories for its stars Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Tyler Blackburn and Vanessa Ray.
