‘Grizzly Adams’ Star Dan Haggerty Dies

Dan Haggerty, star of The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, has died, aged 74.

Haggerty passed away at his home in the San Fernando Valley, California on Friday after a battle with cancer.

The former animal trainer’s big break came when he landed the role of James ‘Grizzly’ Adams, a 19th Century U.S. frontiersman with an affinity for wild beasts, in the 1974 historical adventure movie.

Made for around only $140,000 , the film became a huge success and brought in $65 million at the global box office, spawning a TV series which ran from 1977 to 1978.

As well as his most famous role, Haggerty also guest starred on several TV shows including CHiPs and Charlie’s Angels, enjoying a career in film and television which continued until 2013.

According to editors of TMZ, the actor died surrounded by family and friends, who visited him after he learned he was succumbing to the disease.
