Sara Ramirez is leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

The 40-year-old actress joined the cast of the hit medical drama as Dr. Callie Torres back in 2006 and quickly became a fan favorite.

But after the finale of the 12th season on Thursday, Ramirez confirmed she has quit the program after 10 years.

“I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy & ABC but for now I’m taking some welcome time off. Shonda (Rimes, creator) has been so incredible to work for, and we will definitely continue our conversations,” she said in a statement.

“I send my love to Ellen (Pompeo), the rest of the cast & crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland Family!”

Her sentiment was shared by Rimes, who has become one of TV’s hottest names with shows such as Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder under her belt.

Rimes took to Twitter following Ramirez’s announcement, and said in her own statement: “Dr. Callie Torres came into our lives dancing it out in her underwear almost a decade ago and I could not be happier or more proud of her journey. Sara Ramirez’s performance inspired me as well as millions of fans each week. We wish her the best on her well-deserved time off. I will miss Callie tremendously, but am excited for what the future holds for Sara. She will always have a home at Shondaland.”

The season 12 finale saw Torres and ex-wife Arizona reach a custody agreement over their daughter Sofia, with Arizona agreeing to Torres taking their child to New York so she can be with her girlfriend Penny.

While the storyline left a return possible for Torres, Ramirez had already sparked rumors she would be leaving with a tweet back in April, when she wrote: “That’s a wrap for Doctor #CallieTorres #Season13 #GreysAnatomy #ThankYou all for an enriching & unforgettable #Rollercoaster ride!”
